Make: Sunbeam.
Model: 3 Litre Super Sports.
Engine : Inline six cylinder double overhead cam.
Year: 1926
The three litre Sunbeam is a wonderfully smooth car to drive. The engine is extraordinarily flexible and excellent top gear acceleration. The four speed gearbox allows for quick changes. The brakes are powerful, and the steering is comparatively light. On the open road, the car feels tight and well balanced, a delight to drive.
The car was introduced in May 1924, and was intended for high speed touring, and or racing. The engineering of the car is very advanced for its time. The engine is of the “Monobloc” construction incorporating the cylinder-head. The double overhead cams are driven by a train of gears. Also, there are very elaborate aluminum castings for the crank case and gear box casing. The rear axle is located by cantilevered semi elliptic springs and a torque tube.
I’ve been maintaining this car for the past eight years, and look after many other special interest cars at the works.
